The continuation of a journey, one step at a time . . .

I have recently inherited a my father, Lucien "Lou" Langelier's stamp collection.

I often remember helping my dad with stamps when I was a kid and later on in life when I went back home to visit.  Sitting with my dad at a table covered with stamps and envelopes, a couple water bowls, we were each armed with tweezers and would diligently sort stamps.

It was a time for bonding between son and father.  I didn't always know what I was doing or why.  But it was a quiet contemplative time spent with my dad and the stamps were an opportunity to talk about all kinds of different subjects.

I never really looked at it as sorting stamps, I always just looked at it as time talking with my dad.

Stamp collecting is a passion, not a hobby or an investment ~ its something people do because they enjoy it.

My father wanted someone in the family to carry on the collection.

When I first opened the boxes containing the stamps . . . I realized . . . how incredibly immense the collections were.  I'd never really seen them all together.   I was able to see how well organized and how much work my father put into his stamp collection.  I realized I was going to have to bulk up my knowledge to more than just sorting.

I've inherited entire collections of Canada and World stamps.  All the tools necessary to work with and inspect stamps, all the boxes and pockets and labels needed to keep it going.

I am going to continue my dads collection, ensure his legacy remains in the family.  I've acquired some raw stamps and I'm going to keep the collections up to date.

I also purchased a stamp drying book and an extra set of tweezers.

To get myself going, I've purchase some loose stamps on paper . . . now I'm going to get started . . . Lou's Stamp Collection.
